Aroma Magic Sunscreen with SPF 50

October 28, 2010
When my first bottle of Lotus sunblock spray was about to get over I wanted to try some new sunscreen just explore the market even though I was quite happy with the lotus one. So in that exploration mode I bought the Aroma Magic Sunscreen with SPF 50.

Whichever Aroma magic products I’ve tried until now, have worked pretty decently for me….nothing very fantastic but nothing bad either and hence I wasn’t skeptical about buying the sunscreen as well.

Aroma Magic was running some promotional offer when I bought this due to which I got strawberry lip balm and a small tube of grapefruit facewash free with this sunscreen.

What it claims :
A cream with a high content of natural snscreen agents that protects your skin by blocking out UVA & UVB rays. Suitable for sunbathing and during swimming. Safe for delicate skin of children. Suitlable for all skin types.

Active Ingredients :
Extracts of Chinese Tea, Bach, Horse Radish, Neems, Aloe Vera, Quince Seed, Calamine, Octyl, Methoxycinnamate, Benzaphenone-3, Titanium Dioxide and pure essential oils of Wintergreen, Lavender, Bergamot & Geranium.

Price : Rs. 235 for 120 gms

The sunscreen comes in thick fat tube.

It has a very very mild fragrance and a pearly kind of finish.

What I like about Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Sunscreen :

  • I think it does the job of sun protection as per the SPF claim well. I really don’t know of any way one could actually test whether the sunscreen is doing its job?? Unless you are using it at a place like maybe Goa or maybe if you have sensitive skin..otherwise I don’t think there is any full-proof way of ‘testing’it…but I didn’t have any sunburn issues as such while I used this.
  • It gets absorbed in the skin easily. Does not leave the skin greasy or sweaty at all…Infact I find it quite drying for my skin (I have normal-dry skin)
  • It does not leave a whitish case behind for me, but needs to be blended well into the skin since it has a thick consistency
  • It has a nice mild fragrance
  • It has SPF 50 and I like my sunscreens to have a SPF of atleast 30
What I dislike about Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Sunscreen :
  • I find it extremely drying for my skin. I never use moisturizers with sunscreens on my body as the sunscreen itself is moisturizing enough for me. Only use some base on my face, but with this sunscreen I HAVE to use some moisturizer as its very drying. But this may work very well for people with oily skin.
  • The packing is not very attractive…I find this problem with many aroma magic products..I find their packaging very boring not something which will pull you to their counters in stores. As a matter of fact I used to find their packaging quite ‘cheap’ earlier and until I discovered that they are quite a good brand of aromatherapy products they looked to me like some cheap local brand coz of the packaging.
  • Because of the thick consistency of the cream, you need to rub it in your skin else it might leave some traces behind…don’t like this extra effort I need to put in.
  • The complete ingredient list is not provided…it only mentions the active ingredients
  • Its very inconvenient to get the cream out when ur about to finish the tube..u have to really struggle to get it out..you have to keep on pressing the tube until you get some cream out and its a waste of time for me in the morning when in anycase I am in a hurry.

Would I recommend this to others and re-purchase for myself : I am definitely not buying this again as it is extremely drying for my skin. But I feel it would work well for people with oily skin as it may really control some oil factor.

Which sunscreen are you using?

I have their waterproof sunscreen for swimming but some how the packaging is so boring and it has now faded too therefore i left the idea of reviewing it..we girls need girly packaging..:D:D

I have not tried their sunscreens as yet. I think I'll avoid this, if I have to apply layers of moisturiser then sunscreen, I am pretty sure it will all just melt off with sweat. I have this peculiar problem that I cannot apply more than 1 product on my face in the morning as somehow the layers cause my face to sweat a lot.

True Anamika…I find the packaging of AM products very detesting…Even the Lotus herbals packaging is nothing gr8 but its still better 🙂

  8. October 28, 2010 7:49 am

I knw wht ur saying Tanveer….I have the same problem…I hate putting layers of lotions on my body…with the Lotus sunscreen I can easily skip moisturizer in the morning but with this I cant..its too drying 😦 u shud def skip this..which sunscreen do u use?

  9. October 28, 2010 7:50 am

You are welcome Cali….Chalo atleast I am glad this will work for someone 🙂 give it a try if you are really convinced it would work for you as it does have high SPF factor and the cost is also v resonable…lemme knw how it works for you 🙂

  10. October 28, 2010 7:51 am

I also completely dislike their packaging SSG…It looks v cheap if I may say so…I am never getting this sunscreen again..

  11. October 28, 2010 7:53 am

Yeah Bhumika..the lotus one is in spray form and its in a v runny form so very easily to spread it n apply…it has SPF 50…I've reviewed it on IMBB..you can get the link under "My reviews on other sites"

  12. October 28, 2010 7:55 am

hey..ur welcome Butterfly…whch Neutrogena one are you using? I am always game for trying new ones 🙂

  13. October 28, 2010 8:30 am

i know wat u mean….even i have some of their products but their packaging is so "blah"

  14. October 28, 2010 8:48 am

On a daily basis I get like 10 mins of sun in the morning at 7:30am. So I generally rely on my black scarf to shield my face and arms & ponds TM that has spf 15. But if I know that I am going to get any more sun than that then I fall back on Neutrogena spf 50 sunblock.

  15. October 28, 2010 10:45 am

Yeah Anju..their packaging completely puts me off…this sunscreen didnt work but I quite like their almond under eye cream 🙂

  16. October 28, 2010 10:53 am

okay…I wud still suggest u to use some light sunscreen in the morn for body even though ur sun exposure is not much…it will def be helpful to use one…me 2 use the TM or day cream for my face…hows the neutrogena sunblock?

  17. October 28, 2010 11:27 am

I quite like the Neutrogena sunblock. I have been using it for about 6 mnths now. That too is a wee but drying, in the sense that it gives a matt look to the face. But it has never dried out my skin. In any case I don't rely on sunscreens as my only line of defence against the sun, I always carry a long black scarf & sunglasses.

  18. October 28, 2010 11:46 am

Hey great post…Haven't used it as yet coz I love Lotus sunscreen And the VLCC one as well…Have you used these?

  19. October 28, 2010 1:12 pm

I havnt used much of Neutrogena products but once on my reco a friend of mine bght Neutrogena sunscreen and it broke her out badly..she had to almost see a derm…have been sceptical about trying it myself since thn..we have diff skin types and I know it may not react in a similar way on me but that episode has just stuck with me 🙂

  20. October 28, 2010 1:15 pm

Thanks Rakshanda…Yes I have used Lotus sunscreen…I love the Lotus Sunblock spray with SPF 50…already on my 3rd bottle..never tried VLCC product 😀

  23. October 29, 2010 6:42 am

Thanks Dear…yeah they do have some nice products but only if they would improve on their packaging 🙂

  24. October 29, 2010 6:46 am

Which one from Lotus do you use Sharon? I've reviewed the Spray one on another site…u can find the link under "my reviews on other sites" Just to give u a quick review : It has SPF 50, comes in a spray format…the consistency of the sunscreen is much thinner and runny than others so its much easier to apply and blend on skin..

  25. October 30, 2010 2:42 am

I have used Aroma Magic Cucumber Sunscreen cream..But the smell is yuck and had to discard. Need to check this out..Have you tried Neutrogena HD?The fact that this cream is for oilies sounds good..

  26. October 30, 2010 11:17 am

I havnt used Neutrogena yet Poorni but have heard so many good things that I am tempted to try it but it broke out a friend of mine badly..thats the only reason which is holding me back…which sunscreen are u currently using?

  27. October 31, 2010 2:22 pm

I am currently using Lotus Mattifying Sunscreen..it is quite good too. And it is not making me feel oily after soemtime

  28. November 1, 2010 5:07 am

oh..is it the one which has a foundation kind of look ??? I kind of prefer of dewy look rather than completely matte feel 🙂

  29. November 2, 2010 6:17 am

yeah..the one which has kaolin clay..it does look like foundation when taken out of the tube..but once applied I felt it always went sheer 🙂

  30. November 2, 2010 7:28 am

yeah the same one…I have been wanting to try that since some time…maybe when my current bottle of sunscreen gets over I'll get that one 🙂

  31. November 17, 2010 6:07 am

I am hugely into natural products, but somehow where sun protection, i have found neutrogena to be quite a good bet. Its non greasy, doesnt make you sweat and its SPF 50. I have tried the Forest Essentials day lotions with SPF too, but somehow i keep coming back to neutrogena.

  32. November 17, 2010 5:48 pm

Hey Anamika…welcome here..glad to c ur commentThough I have personally not used Neutrogena sunscreen..have heard a lot of ppl rave abt it..on the other hand it badly broke out a friend of mine so I am a little scared to try thm now…my current fav sunscreen is Lotus Herbals sunblock spray with SPF 50 🙂
